Two takes on Monday Night Football

Last night there was record breaking Monday Night Football game, Tom Brady threw for an astounding 511 yards passing leading to the New England Patriots to a 38 to 24 win over the underdog Miami Dolphins at home.  However, if you only read the ESPN recap of the game you would pretty much know only one name that played in the game Tom Brady because of this performance.  On the other side of the story the actual recap of the game was covered in much more detail by the Boston Globe.  This just speaks to what each of these entities finds important in a news story.
ESPN for the most part covered solely Tom Brady for a few reasons, one is that Tom Brady is a  celebrity and he will draw a major audience to the piece if you concentrate on him.  The next reason goes hand in hand with the last one and it is the proximity of the audience that ESPN is trying to reach is a national one.  One of the ways that they do that is concentrating on quarterback with appeal and it also helps with his unusual event of a phenomenal number of passing yards.  Now on the other end of the spectrum is the Boston Globe who is concentrating on the people in Boston so as a result they want to know about other players in the game such as Wes Welker, Brian Waters and others.  The final major difference is the fact that they did a play by play of the game because they know that some did not watch the game and want to know exactly what happened while ESPN's target audience mostly already watched the game and are looking for reactions not a recap.
